Our Story

The beautiful Bute Court, now renamed the Marquis Hotel, was built for the 3rd Marquis of Bute as a summer residence in the 19th century. Still having many of the original features it was converted to a fine hotel around 1920 which includes superb sea views.

The original brochure for the hotel states that "all rooms are lit by electricity" but "visitors using bedrooms as sitting rooms will be charged 2/- extra per week for light". I wonder if we could get away with that.......?

We stayed for 1 night at the Marquis. The staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was superb and service excellent. The bar area and restaurant are very lovely with stunning views of the sea. Robinson199
