Our Story

The beautiful Bute Court, now renamed the Marquis Hotel, was built for the 3rd Marquis of Bute as a summer residence in the 19th century. Still having many of the original features it was converted to a fine hotel around 1920 which includes superb sea views.

The original brochure for the hotel states that "all rooms are lit by electricity" but "visitors using bedrooms as sitting rooms will be charged 2/- extra per week for light". I wonder if we could get away with that.......?

Excellent stay, the recent renovations (touch more to do yet), are based on quality especially the en-suite facilities. Torquay hotels need such bringing in to the 21st century. Staff were customer friendly as was the price, room etc.spotless and breakfast excellent. Good luck to the new owners and well done for your forward thinking. Bob P
